Can I combine treatments?

Yes! It is common practice to address multiple areas of concern when undergoing surgery for cosmetic gynecology. Common combined treatments may include:

The clitoral hood the folds of skin surrounding and covering the clitoris. Because the clitoris’ sole function is to provide sexual stimulation, it is highly sensitive and contains thousands of nerve endings. The purpose of a clitoral hood reduction procedure may be to reduce the size of the clitoral hood to improve appearance, or to expose more of the clitoris to improve sexual stimulation.

Surgical clitoral hood reduction can be performed under local or general anesthesia. During the procedure, the surgeon, like Dr. Sue Kafali will first mark and anesthetize the area. Once numbed, the excess clitoral hood skin is then carefully resected using a scalpel or laser. The resection can either be done on the lateral clitoral hood tissues in a diamond shape pattern, in the central area above the clitoris itself in an upside-down moon shape, or in both areas in an upside-down horseshoe shape. Bleeding is carefully controlled by surgeons like Dr. Sue Kafali and the incisions are generally closed using self-dissolving sutures. The type of excision and the amount of tissue removed will be determined by you and your surgeon depending on your aesthetic and functional goals.

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure to re-size or re-shape the labial tissues, commonly known as the inner vaginal lips. By resizing and/or reshaping the labia minora, Dr. Sue Kafali can reduce the discomfort some women have during exercise and intercourse, while also improving symmetry and overall appearance.

The size and shape of the labia folds differ for every woman, and women seek labiaplasty for many different reasons. For some women, the skin that makes up their labia minora may be elongated and hang lower than the labia majora. This excess tissue, known as “labial show”, may cause hygiene issues, pain during activity and intercourse, or make wearing certain types of clothing such as yoga pants or a bathing uncomfortable or embarrassing. BENEFITS of labia surgery may include:

  • Enhanced appearance
  • Relief from discomfort and pain
  •  Improved sexual function/stimulation Improved hygiene
  • A boost in confidence

Labiaplasty can be done under local or general anesthesia depending on your specific surgical and health needs. The procedure itself can be done using one of several different techniques.

The simplest way is the “edge-trim” technique, where the surgeon removes the outer portion of the labia minora. This technique allows for the most aggressive amount of resection to be done but sacrifices the natural edge.

At FemSculpt™, our highly-skilled, board-certified surgeons have perfected a more finely-tuned method of labiaplasty known as modified inferior wedge technique, which allows for more aggressive resection with a well-hidden scar, while still maintaining a natural edge along the entire length of the labia. Maintaining as much of the natural edge as possible is important for a natural appearance as well as preserving sensation.

What is Cleft Narrowing? The cleft narrowing is a procedure which is designed to narrow the pudendal cleft. This can be accomplished by reducing the amount of protruding tissue causing a widened cleft or making the labia majora themselves more plump. Some of the procedures commonly performed in combination include: clitoral hood reduction labia minora reduction labial puff

Cleft narrowing is usually done as a cosmetic procedure because some women prefer the neat and clean look of a thin slit between the labia majora while in standing position.

The perineum is a very important point of the pelvic floor muscles that lie between the vagina and rectum. During pregnancy and delivery, the perineal body can experience injury- tearing and scarring, causing laxity and loss of sensation.

Perineoplasty is a procedure in which the area near the opening of the vagina is surgically repaired and tightened to restore the perineum and normalize vaginal support. The entrance of the vagina will be narrowed and strengthened resulting in improvement of vaginal tightness and tone for intercourse. Perineal repair is often performed in conjunction with vaginoplasty or labiaplasty, but it may also be performed as a simple single outpatient procedure.
