What is MonaLisa Touch®?
MonaLisa Touch treatment uses fractional CO2 laser energy to soft tissue. As you age and as your estrogen levels go down after menopause, you produce less collagen and this may also cause vaginal atrophy. That means your vaginal tissue becomes dry, and thinner than it was when you were younger. It may also become inflamed, causing burning, itching, discomfort, and even bleeding.
Because of vaginal atrophy, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:
- Urinary incontinence such as leaking urine when you sneeze, laugh, or cough
- Lichen sclerosis (a common post-menopausal skin condition)
- Frequent urinary tract infections

Does MonaLisa Touch® Work?
The MonaLisa Touch is a specialized laser technology specifically designed to treat vaginal tissue. The laser energy delivered by MonaLisa Touch stimulates your vagina to form new blood vessels and increases the production of collagen and elastin, two proteins that contribute strength and elasticity to your vaginal tissues.

How is MonaLisa Touch performed?
Your treatment with MonaLisa Touch occurs in our office and requires no anesthesia. During your treatment, your doctor will insert a small probe into your vagina. The probe delivers gentle laser energy to your vaginal tissues. Your treatment lasts only about five minutes.
The laser energy delivered by MonaLisa Touch stimulates your vagina to form new blood vessels and increases the production of collagen and elastin, two proteins that contribute strength and elasticity to your vaginal tissues.
Most women can return to their normal routine soon after having MonaLisa Touch treatment, although Dr. Kafali may recommend that you refrain from sexual intercourse for two or three days.
What conditions does MonaLisa Touch treat?
MonaLisa Touch® may be right for you if you’re experiencing:
- Painful intercourse
- Vaginal dryness and poor lubrication during intercourse
- Vaginal changes from chemotherapy/tamoxifen

How many treatments will I need and how long does it take?
Most patients will need at least three Mona Lisa Touch treatments in order to receive the maximum benefit. However, depending on the amount of restoration that needs to be performed on the vaginal tissue will determine how many you may need. Additionally a “maintenance” treatment every 12-18 months may also be recommended after the original treatment plan is completed.
Does MonaLisa treatment hurt?
The MonaLisa Touch procedure does not require anesthesia, and most patients can resume normal activity after undergoing treatment. There are side effects are very minor and may include itching, burning, redness, or swelling immediately following the procedure.
How long do MonaLisa Touch treatments last?
The procedure itself only takes around 5 minutes. Many patients have noticed an improvement after the first treatment has been performed. While the procedure is considered “permanent” it is recommended that you plan to come back for an annual maintenance treatment and a follow up appointment on the initial 3rd treatment within 18 months.
Is there any downtime after MonaLisa Touch treatments?
Because MonaLisa Touch does not require anesthesia, and most patients can resume normal activity after their treatment. Patients should avoid sexual intercourse or any form for 2 to 3 days following the procedure.
How much does MonaLisa Touch treatments cost in Chicago?
The cost of each MonaLisa Touch treatment starts at $1,000 to $1200 per session in Chicago. However, at FemSculpt, we offer discounted pricing for packages of 3 treatments or more. Mona Lisa Touch treatment is considered a cosmetic procedure and is not covered by many insurance plans. We offer special discounts to women who have medical conditions such as breast cancer or lichen sclerosis.
