What is a Mons Pubis Reduction & Lift (Monsplasty)?

A monsplasty procedure reduces the size of “bulging” mons by liposuctioning the excess fat. Excess skin may need to be removed in some cases. Additionally, we offer skin tightening by Renuvion Jplasma for added benefit.

The procedure is performed by a board-certified cosmetic surgeon under local or general anesthesia.

What is a mons pubis?

The mons pubis is the hair-bearing mound above your labia that helps cushion the pubic bone. It varies naturally in size and shape. When it becomes more prominent or sits lower, it can show through clothing or feel like it changes the proportions of your bikini line.

A monsplasty can:

Reduce the amount of fatty tissue and/or skin
Create a lower-profile contour that typically projects less in clothing
Decrease hanging when excess skin is the main issue

A mons pubis reduction may also be combined with other vaginal rejuvenation procedures, including labiaplasty, clitoral hood reduction, or vaginoplasty.

A “monsplasty” plan is not one-size-fits-all. The mons is mostly fatty tissue under skin, sitting over the pubic bone. A monsplasty reduces projection by decreasing fat volume, removing lax skin, or both.

Before you consider treatment, it helps to know what’s actually creating the fullness. For some women it’s mostly extra fat, for others it’s looser skin, and sometimes it’s a mix of both.

What is monsplasty?

Monsplasty is a pubic lift procedure designed to reduce bulging of the mons by reducing fatty tissue and/or removing skin, depending on the cause.

Is mons pubis reduction the same as a pubic lift?

Yes. Mons pubis reduction and pubic lift are commonly used to describe monsplasty.

What is a “FUPA”?

“FUPA” is an informal term. It can be related to fat volume, skin laxity, or both.

Is monsplasty done with local or general anesthesia?

Depending on how much tissue is removed, local anesthesia with oral sedation may be used for some cases, while general anesthesia may be preferable in others.

How long is the recovery after a mons pubis reduction?

Most patients return to light daily activities, including desk work, in one to two weeks. The first several days are the most uncomfortable, with swelling and bruising, and pain usually improves after about five to seven days. Strenuous activity waits at least four to six weeks, and the incision itself keeps healing for four to eight weeks. Recovery varies with the extent of the procedure, so Dr. Kafali gives you a timeline at your consultation.

What are the risks?

Risks can include bleeding, infection, hematoma/seroma, swelling, numbness, scarring, healing problems, and anesthesia risk.

Can monsplasty be combined with other procedures?
