Traveling for a Labiaplasty

Many women travel to Chicago for a labiaplasty or revision labiaplasty with Dr. Sue Kafali or Dr. Anh-Tuan Truong at FemSculpt. Dr. Kafali focuses on corrective vaginal surgery to help restore both appearance and comfort in the labia and surrounding tissues. If you are dealing with irritation, pain, scarring concerns, or results that do not feel like you, choosing an experienced revision labiaplasty surgeon matters. From there, we can plan your care and your travel timeline so you feel supported before you arrive and after you return home.

About one-third of our labiaplasty patients are out of town or traveling internationally. Our team will guide you through the process step by step:

  • Start with a virtual consultation on our website
  • You will speak with Dr. Kafali or Dr. Truong by phone to review your concerns and goals
  • We will still meet you in person, either the day before surgery or the morning of surgery based on your preference, so we can review your plan in more detail

Tips for Traveling Patients

A few practical steps make travel days smoother before and after your procedure:

  • Request a wheelchair for travel throughout the airport.
  • Bring a responsible adult to travel with you and help with mobility and luggage.
  • Stay mobile to prevent blood clots. When flying, stand up and walk at least once per hour.
  • Stay well hydrated. This helps flush anesthesia from your body and supports healing.
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing to avoid pressure on the surgical area.
  • Pack a small travel bag with ice packs, a peri bottle, and prescribed medications.
  • Use a small pillow or cushion for comfort while sitting.
  • Keep the surgical area clean and dry during travel.
  • Take all medications as prescribed for pain management and healing.

How Long Should You Plan to Stay?

Please review the guidelines below to help support a safe, comfortable recovery.

  • Labiaplasty: Plan to stay in town for 48 to 72 hours after surgery.
  • Vaginoplasty or Vaginal Rejuvenation: These procedures typically require a longer stay of 3 to 5 days.
  • Multiple Procedures: If you are having more than one procedure, plan to stay 3 to 5 days.

Your nurse will schedule a follow-up appointment prior to your travel home to ensure you are medically cleared.

Follow-Up for Out-of-State & International Patients

Your follow-up plan is individualized. It depends on:

  • The type and combination of procedures
  • The depth and complexity of surgery
  • The suture material used
  • Your age and medical history

In general, most out-of-state and international patients can leave Chicago within 24 to 72 hours after surgery, often within 48 to 72 hours, as long as you are medically stable. Your postoperative care is customized to your surgery and your needs, and we arrange the right follow-up accordingly. If your recovery is uncomplicated and an in-person visit is not required, the first postoperative follow-up is typically a virtual visit about two weeks after surgery.

Does it hurt?
Most patients do well with local anesthesia and oral relaxation medicine. Expect pressure or soreness that improves with aftercare.

What anesthesia do you use?
We typically use local anesthesia for most procedures. Some add oral medication to help you relax. We can discuss the best options for your case.

Will this change sensation?
We aim to protect sensation with nerve-sparing technique. Temporary sensitivity changes and swelling are common during healing. We review the procedure and any risks in detail prior to your surgery.

How much do FemSculpt’s procedures cost?
