WHAT IS LABIA MAJORA REDUCTION?
Labia majora reduction is a procedure in which tissue of the labia majora is excised or removed. If there is excess skin causing wrinkling, labia majora reduction can help tighten the tissue of the outer vaginal lips resulting in a tighter, smoother appearance. If the labia majora are excessively large or fat, liposuction can be done to remove some of the fat to create a more petite appearance.
HOW IS LABIA MAJORA-PEXY PERFORMED?
Labia majora-pexy is a surgical procedure designed to “lift” a droopy in which the loose tissue of the labia majora are stretched and lifted to create a more youthful and tighter appearance.
WHAT IS RECOVERY LIKE FOR LABIA MAJORA SURGERY?
Immediately after labia majora surgery, you will experience some swelling and potential bruising. Minor bleeding is not uncommon. Most bruising and swelling should be resolved in less than two weeks, but some residual swelling may last longer. You can expect some discomfort which can be lessened with ice and pain medication. Most patients can return to work in 2-3 days. You will be asked to abstain from intercourse for 6 weeks until the tissues are fully healed. Activities like bike-riding or horse-back riding should also be avoided during that time. It will be important to follow your surgeon’s post-op instructions to assure the least amount of scarring and the best outcome.
WILL THERE BE VISIBLE SCARS FROM LABIA MAJORA SURGERY?
Because the tissue of the labia majora is external, there may be some scars visible. However, your surgeon will place your scars in areas that will be hidden, usually along edges or in the creases. Over time the scars should be hardly noticeable to the naked eye.
