What is perineoplasty?
Perineoplasty is a surgical procedure that reshapes and reinforces the perineal body (the tissue between the vaginal opening and anus). The goal is to restore support, narrow a widened introitus (opening), and address symptoms like gaping or discomfort during sex that can follow childbirth or scarring.

Who is a good candidate?
You may be a candidate if you have:
- Perineal laxity or widening after childbirth
- Visible gaping at the vaginal entrance
- Scar pain or tugging from a prior tear or episiotomy
- Discomfort with intimacy linked to lost perineal support or scarring
A focused pelvic exam is essential to confirm that your symptoms match what perineoplasty treats. If your main issue is pelvic floor prolapse higher in the vagina (apical prolapse), persistent pelvic pain from other causes, or bowel symptoms like fecal incontinence, you may need a different evaluation or procedure.
