What is a Labial Puff?

Labial puff is a very popular vaginal rejuvenation procedure. A labial puff or labial augmentation, is a procedure designed to improve the appearance of a deflated-appearing or “wrinkling” labia majora by making it appear “puffier”.

Aging, childbirth, menopause or genetics can cause some women to develop a flat and wrinkled-appearing labia majora.  A deflated labia majora can be seen more prominently when lying down, but can affect the way the vulva looks standing as well. The loss of volume and laxity of the labia majora may cause discomfort or even affect a woman’s self confidence. This procedure may be good for women who:

  • Desire a labia majora that appears full, smooth
  • Want to address asymmetry
  • Restore volume
  • Conceal a prominent labia minora

How is labial puff with fillers performed?

Labial puffing injections is a non-surgical option and is performed by a trained cosmetic surgeon. Local anesthetic will be injected prior to filler injections to minimize patient discomfort. Your surgeon can add volume to the outer vaginal lips using an approved filler, like hyaluronic acid (HA). HA fillers can be done under local in the office. Injections using filler are temporary and will need to be repeated every 3-6 months depending the patient.

How is a fat transfer to labia performed?

A labial puff fat transfer is a surgical procedure offering a more long-lasting, permanent result. Just as in the face or hands, one of the easiest ways to restore a more youthful appearance to the Labia Majora is simply to inject the fat lost by aging. A fat transfer to the labia majora involves harvesting fat from other areas like your abdomen or inner thighs. The purified fat is then injected into the labia majora to add more volume. This procedure may be combined with other popular cosmetic procedures such as a Labiaplasty, Mons Pubis Reduction, and Lipo360 and should be done by a trained cosmetic surgeon.

Recovery after labial puffing…

Recovery following your labial puff procedure may vary depending on whether you underwent labial puff injections with dermal fillers or fat transfer. Labial puff injections with dermal fillers have little to no downtime, with most patients resuming their normal activities immediately following their procedure.

Labial puffing with fat grafting is a surgical liposuction procedure requiring some downtime. Patients will experience some swelling or soreness in the areas where fat was liposuctioned and transferred. The swelling and soreness should improve each day. Most patients may return to work 3-5 days after surgery based on their level of discomfort. It could take up to six weeks for the swelling to completely subside and allow time for the tissues to heal. At three months, the full results should be seen.
